WASHOE COUNTY NEWS RELEASE
The Board of Fire Commissioners for the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District has unanimously approved an increase in the level of emergency medical services provided in all unincorporated areas of Washoe County serviced by the TMFPD. The District was also authorized to hire up to nine additional paramedics, whose advanced training will enable the District to make this service level enhancement. The decision will provide a paramedic on duty at every station on every shift 24 hours per day.
The Board confirmed that there is no intention for the District to provide emergency medical transport services. The fire commissioners also expressed their desire to evaluate this new level of service in coordination with the current efforts to implement the recommendations of the recent emergency medical services study.
District Fire Chief Charles Moore said, “This is a significant improvement in the medical services which we can provide to the residents of Washoe County. We can now initiate advanced life support interventions in the outlying areas of the region’s core, where ambulance response times are often extended. The actions that the Board took today will inevitably save lives and positively impact everyone in need of emergency medical services.” The District will phase in the new EMS services into its seven TMFPD fire stations over the next several months.
