An art event geared toward seniors scheduled this weekend is being billed as an opportunity for participants to do crafts inspired by the gardens of the Wilbur D. May Arboretum.

“Art from the Earth” is planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 28 at the May Arboretum in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, 1595 N. Sierra St.

Art Partners, a program of the Sanford Center for Aging and the John and Geraldine Lilley Museum of Art at the University of Nevada, Reno, is putting on the event for seniors and their families.

Activities include natural dyeing with marigolds, sun printing with local plants, and creating nature crowns from materials found in the gardens, among others. Two 45-minute “Art Meets History” guided tours are planned at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Admission is free and supplies will be provided by the May Arboretum Society.

Those planning to attend are asked to register in advance by calling (775) 785-4153 or emailing [email protected].
