Weekly Art Fix (Oct. 27): Dracula, Zombies, Ghosts & More!

By Dana Nollsch

The Passion of DraculaThe Passion of Dracula
This is a story most of us know well and this production by Laughing Owl Productions tells the tale in a very traditional way. Girl meets bat, the bat falls in love and is ultimately betrayed. Dracula played by Lewis Zaumeyer is stoic and intense, perhaps at times a bit mellow dramatic and campy, perfect for this time of year.

The character that shined for me was Renfield played by Scott Dundas, at times I felt compassion for this character, even as he played his part in this nefarious scheme. This is a fun play told in a traditional way with talented actors who take us on a ride perfect for Halloween

Carson City Ghost Walk
This is the time of year that the ghosts come out to play, and that is very true in Carson City. Tours are led by wonderful characters and they take us to places of history and darkness. Entertaining and educational this is one event that is a must. If you missed this one you will have to wait till next summer when it starts again and don’t forget the October edition next year. Here is a video to give you a taste of what they offer.

Thriller Under the Arch
What can I say? This is one of the iconic events in Reno and indeed it lived up to its reputation and then some. Instead of me rambling on, just watch the video I made and see for yourself.

Upcoming events to consider:

Day Out With Thomas the Train in Virginia City
A Day Out With Thomas™ gives children and their families a chance to take a 25-minute train ride with Thomas the Tank Engine™ and to meet Sir Topham Hatt™. Explore the Imagination Station Caboose, create colorful memories in the Coloring Caboose, dine at the P. B. & J. Pullman car and have fun with plenty of other Thomas-themed activities including motor car rides and putt putt golf at Sudor Island. Children can collect a Thomas tattoo, an engineer’s license and have their passport stamped. There is time to listen to expert storytelling and watch the latest Thomas videos in the V & T’s 1870 waiting room. Next weekend at Virginia and Truckee Railroad Depot. Slaughterhouse
The Reno Fright Fest has partnered with the Reno Aces to bring Northern Nevada’s #1 Haunted Attraction to the Reno Aces Ballpark. The cost is $15 for general admission and $22 for a speed pass. Free parking available across from the ballpark. This year a portion of the proceeds goes to help fund Washoe County’s Children in Transition Program. It’s at the Reno Aces Ballpark.
