The American Cancer Society’s Reno-Sparks Relay For Life partners with the Reno Aces and Aces Ballpark for the first time to host its largest and most impactful fundraising event of the year. The 2015 Relay For Life, an organized team-walking event, will be held from noon to midnight, Saturday, June 6, at the downtown Aces Ballpark.

“We are really excited about our new venue and partnership with the Reno Aces this year,” Melissa Williams, experience lead for the Reno-Sparks Relay For Life, said. “We are also introducing a 12-hour event for the first time and we believe it will keep everyone better engaged the entire time.”

The team-walk event is free and open to the public, with a goal to raise funds for American Cancer Society. Relay For Life events celebrate survivors and caregivers and honor those who have lost the fight to cancer. Participants are encouraged to create a team or sign up on an established team, and can easily sign up through Facebook at www.facebook.com/RFLRenoSparksNV.

“The Reno-Sparks relay committee has set a goal to sign up 100 teams this year that raise a minimum of $200,000,” Brian Watkins, event co-lead, said. “We are making good headway with 57 teams signed up already more than $22,000, but we have a lot more to go.”

The Relay For Life event will include an opening ceremony, survivor lap, caregiver lap and opening lap around the path set on the Reno Aces field, then a Luminaria ceremony. Luminaria bags and candles are lit to honor those who have passed or are fighting the disease. Walking continues throughout the day, with planned family games, activities and entertainment. Local food and faire from a variety of local food trucks will be available for purchase. The evening will close with a Fight Back ceremony and a concert. Relay For Life is a dry, smoke-free event, and no pets will be allowed in the ballpark.

Reno-Sparks Relay For Life is also encouraging the community to share their support this year by posting messages to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #FieldofHope.
