Honorary Deputy Sheriff’s Association presents $50,000 check to Walmart for 10th Annual Shop with the Sheriff charity event

Date:

Washoe County Sheriff Michael Haley (center) and Undersheriff Todd Vinger (left) are joined by Honorary Deputy Sheriff’s Association members Luther Mack, Jr., Tom Dolan and Pat Dolan as they get ready to present the Damonte Walmart Superstore with a $50,000 check to fund this year’s Shop with the Sheriff event.

The Honorary Deputy Sheriff’s Association has generously underwritten this annual holiday shopping spree for hundreds of needy children for ten years, donating approximately half a million dollars to create a memorable holiday event that has touched the lives of thousands of local families.

“Although they do not seek the limelight for their efforts to make Washoe County a better place for all, members of the Honorary Deputy Sheriff’s Association have time and again shown how deeply they care for our community, especially the children, and for this we give them our heartfelt thanks,” Sheriff Haley said.

This year’s Shop with the Sheriff will take place at the Damonte Walmart Superstore in South Reno from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2012.

Children are pre-selected through local social services agencies. Each child is partnered with a member of the Honorary Association or a volunteer from the Sheriff’s Office and taken on a store-wide shopping spree where they are allowed to spend up to $200 on clothes and toys for themselves as well as for members of their family. Restrictions on the nature and amount of funds which can be used for electronic games and devices are observed.

Every child also receives a $50 gift card to be used specifically for groceries for their families.
