Firewood permits available for north central Nevada

Date:

blm_logo-300x261-6496975-7399839Wood cutting permits for open cutting areas in Humboldt and Pershing counties are available at the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Humboldt River Field Office, 5100 E. Winnemucca Blvd. in Winnemucca, and at the Pershing County Farm Service Agency, 110 American Blvd in Lovelock,

Piñon and juniper permits cost $5 per cord with a minimum two-cord purchase and a maximum of four cords per year.  Permits are valid for 90 days from issuance or until fire restrictions go into effect, if that date is earlier.  Woodcutting is allowed only in designated areas in Yellowstone Canyon in the East Range and in the Stillwater Range.  Maps of these authorized areas are included with the permits.  Within these areas, only dead Piñon trees – standing or down – may be cut. Live or dead juniper trees may be cut.  No resale or other commercial use of the wood is allowed.

To minimize the risk of wildfire, woodcutters should have a shovel and extra water available, and all chainsaws must be equipped with functioning spark arrestors.

For more information, call Eric Baxter at the BLM Winnemucca District at 775-623-1500.
