Date:

image001-1589106-8915172The University of Nevada Men’s tennis team will travel to Davis, Calif. this Friday to begin its first tournament of the year, the UC Davis Aggie Fall Invitational.

The Wolf Pack is looking to start strong after last season ended in the Western Athletic Conference semifinal against Fresno State. A full roster that sees two newcomers joining the team will make the trip to Davis for head coach Erik Burton, back for his second season and the team’s first in the Mountain West. He guided the Wolf Pack to an 11-11 dual play record last year.

“We have four returning starters from last year’s semi-final WAC championship team, and our newcomers are progressing well,” Burton said. “We hope to continue our fight for improvement as individuals and as a team to prepare for the spring season.”

Back to lead the way is junior team captain Victor Ouvrard, who recorded a career-high 19 wins last season, including a 13-8 record to earn a second-team all-WAC singles honor.

Moez Echargui also returns for the Wolf Pack for his sophomore campaign, after posting 17 wins, including a 12-8 record in dual play en route to the WAC Freshman of the Year award.

Along with the returners are newcomers Ryan Andrada and Andrew Poustie, both freshman. Andrada was ranked 13th in the state of California in high school tennis. Poustie achieved a national men’s open ranking of No. 80 before signing to play for the Wolf Pack.

The UC Davis Aggie Fall Invitational will be the first of three tournaments for the Wolf Pack in the fall before beginning dual play in Irvine, Calif. against UC Irvine.
