Nevada volleyball pushes UNLV to the limit, falls 3-2

image001-1590643-1071101After fighting its way out of a two-set hole, the University of Nevada volleyball team fell 15-7 in the fifth-and-deciding set against UNLV at the Virginia Street Gym on Thursday night. The Rebels took the match 3-2 (31-29, 25-14, 23-25, 23-25, 15-7).

The Wolf Pack fell to 4-13 (1-3 MW), while UNLV improved to 12-5 (4-0 MW).

Four Nevada players had at least 10 kills for the first time this season, as Tessa Lea’ea, Janelle Batista, Bonnie Paul and Grace Anxo all got into double digits. Lea’ea led the way with 16, followed by Batista (14), Paul (12) and Anxo (11).

In addition to Nevada’s strong offense, the Wolf Pack played a solid all-around match, seeing two players record double-doubles. Dana Holt had 48 assists and 13 digs for her team-leading fifth of the season. Anxo had 11 digs to post her third of 2012.

Kelly Chang had 20 digs to lead Nevada defensively. As a team, the Wolf Pack hit .173 on 185 attacks and scored 80 points.

Nevada will stay at home to take on Fresno State on Saturday at noon at the Virginia Street Gym.
