Sandoval appoints Thomas Stockard to 10th Judicial Court

sandovallogo-300x91-4269508-2458172CARSON CITY–Governor Brian Sandoval today announced he has appointed Thomas Stockard to the 10th Judicial District Court vacancy.

“A long-time resident of Churchill County, Tom has been an active member of the community,” Sandoval said. “I have known Tom for many years and his experience in both civil and criminal law will be an asset to the 10th Judicial District bench.”

A graduate of Brigham Young University, Stockard holds a J.D. from the Brigham Young University J. Reuben Clark Law School in Provo, Utah. During his second year of law school, Stockard served as a member of the BYU Journal of Public Law. As a third year student, Stockard was selected as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Public Law.

Between his second and third years of law school, Stockard was selected as a summer intern for Justice Randall Rader of the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C. He has served on the State Bar of Nevada Northern Disciplinary Panel and has taught Constitutional Law and Courtroom Demeanor at the Peace Officers Training Academy in Carson City.

Currently the chief deputy district attorney for the Churchill County District Attorney, Stockard was admitted to the Nevada Bar in 1993. Stockard supervises the criminal, civil and child support divisions of the district attorney’s office. Prior to joining the DA’s office, Stockard practiced law in his own firm in Reno and focused on criminal defense, civil litigation and family law. From August 1993 to August 1994 Stockard served as Judicial Clerk to the Honorable Jerry Carr Whitehead at the 2nd Judicial District Court in Reno.
