Skateboard contest motivates students to make the grade

MAKING THE GRADE NEWS RELEASE

David White, D.D.S. and local partner Eternal Board Shop are announcing the first annual “Making the Grade” Scholastic and Amateur Skate Contest to be held on June 10 at Mira Loma Skate Park at 10 a.m.

The contest will encourage skateboarders from the ages of 7 to 18 years old in the Washoe and Elko county school districts to not only brush up on their skateboarding skills but also to dust off their school books this semester.

The participant’s final grades that are submitted before the competition will be factored into their final score in the skate competition. These grades must be submitted on an official application. The higher the grade, the higher the final score.

Participants of the skate contest will be separated into three different age groups. One boy and one girl from each age group will be declared winners by a panel of judges. Each winner will receive a weeklong trip to Lake Tahoe’s new Woodward Skate Camp.

Lake Tahoe’s Woodward Skate Camp is a new program in the Tahoe area that is dedicated to helping camp goers acquire new skills, balance and styles in the sport. Each winner will be placed in a program that caters to their age and ability level, ultimately giving campers the potential to improve their core skills within a week’s time.

The weeklong camp will begin July 15 at the Boreal location.
