Cookie ride celebrates Tahoe-Pyramid Bikeway anniversary

Date:

SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

To celebrate the seventh anniversary of the Tahoe-Pyramid Bikeway’s first project, the public is invited to join bikeway members and the Procrastinating Pedalers on a group ride May 20 from Idlewild Park in Reno to Crystal Peak Park in Verdi.

In 2005, the bikeway group built a 1-mile paved bikeway that runs north of Interstate 80 from Mogul to Verdi to get bicyclists off of the freeway, utilizing a $100,000 Recreational Trails grant. Since then, the group headed by Janet Phillips has worked to open up 32 miles of trail along the Truckee River, with the eventual goal of creating a bikeway following the river from Pyramid Lake to Lake Tahoe, a total distance of 116 miles.

Starting at 10 a.m. on May 20, bicyclists will take off from the east end of Idlewild Park for the ride. Route maps will be available.

Free cookies will be served at Crystal Peak Park and group members will stop at Mayberry Landing on the return trip for another snack at their own expense. It’s a 20-mile round-trip ride that includes sections along busy roads. It is or is not suitable for small children.

For more details, contact Janet Phillips at 825-9868 or by email at [email protected].
