Addressing quality of life issues for residents of downtown motel

This morning, a multi-agency motel interdiction sweep took place at the Castaway Inn (525 West Second Street) in the interest of developing a better living environment for the residents of the motel.

The Reno Police Department’s Downtown Enforcement Team and Community Action Officers, City of Reno Code Enforcement and Business License, Reno Fire Department, OSHA, and Washoe County Health Department collaborated on the sweep.

On-going surveillance and crime suppression in the area has occurred over the past several months by the Reno Police Department. During those operations, officers received information from individuals voicing concerns about health and safety issues.

Today’s sweep resulted in following:

• One arrest for Possession of Dangerous Weapon (brass knuckles)

Arrested: CLEMENTS, Joshua – date of birth 12/11/86 – RPD case #11-8238

• One citation for Ex-Felon Failure to Register

Cited: LALONDE, Dennis – date of birth 11/29/56 – RPD case #11-8239

• One room deemed uninhabitable due to serious plumbing and heating issues

• Several code enforcement violations such as an inadequate boiler without a permit, insufficient heating in rooms, minor electrical problems, plumbing issues, bed bugs and roaches, and none working smoke detectors.
