Date:

SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

The Northern Nevada Chapter, American Red Cross will hold its inaugural Hike to Help on Sunday, May 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bartley Ranch Regional Park in Reno.

Participants will take an easy walk along the scenic trails, making stops at several stations to learn the basics of CPR, AED and first aid techniques. Hikers will receive an event t-shirt and goodie bag and will be entered into a drawing to win prizes if they visit each of the learning stations. A barbecue lunch will be served.

The cost is $25 for adults, $20 for seniors (60 and older), $10 for children (ages 12 and under) and $50 for a family (four participants). Registration is available online at www.nevada.redcross.org or by calling 856-1000.

The Hike to Help is sponsored by Walmart, NV Energy, Renown Health, Charles Schwab Bank, Pestmaster Services and Maverick Printing. All proceeds from the event will be used by the Northern Nevada Chapter to provide emergency assistance to those displaced from their homes due to fire or other disasters, to teach lifesaving skills and to provide support to the armed forces and their families.

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation’s blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
