Thanksgiving activities start a few weeks early with the 13th annual Meet the Turkeys event scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 9 at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, 1595 N. Sierra St.
Live turkeys will be available for viewing and the public is invited to go into the pen with them to visit and take photographs, according to event host Washoe County Regional Parks and Open Space.
Other farm animals will also be on hand, including “Moolisa,” a life-sized replica of a milking cow, from the state Department of Agriculture. Additionally, the Washoe County Library System will be hosting story time for families.
Admission is free, although the community is asked to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.
