arboretum-brand-700x474-6805178-6793733The arrival of springlike weather and gardening go hand-in-hand, at least for plant lovers.

The May Arboretum Society’s annual spring plant sale is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 12 and 13 in the arboretum’s botanical garden at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, 1595 North Sierra Street.

Cash, checks, and credit cards will be accepted. Arboretum society members get 10 percent off.

More than 2,500 locally-grown plants will be available for purchase. These include sun and shade perennials, herbs, plants known to attract butterflies, those with low water requirements, heat tolerant plants and succulents. Details about each plant will be available to potential buyers.

Horticulturists and members of the arboretum society will be available for questions and offer growing tips.

Staff from Crème Café are scheduled to be in Burke Garden creating foods and beverages with herbs that can be grown in ground or in containers.

Under the “red tent,” the public can attend a mini lecture series to learn about soil types, native plants, and pollinator-attracting plants.
