VIDEO: Five Cats Die in House Fire

Date:

The Reno Fire Department (RFD) today about 5 p.m. swiftly put out a house fire on Roberts Street off of Wells Avenue.

Three cats were confirmed killed in the blaze, and two more were unaccounted for, presumed dead, said Mark Bohach with RFD.

“They’re big cats,” he said after a reporter said they looked like dogs.

The cause of the fire was undetermined, but nearby residents assisted one resident from the home; another tried to put out the fire with a garden hose.

“Since the house was so charred with smoke, we couldn’t find the active fire originally,” Bohach added. “It ended up being in a back bedroom. It smoldered in there for quite awhile.

“We ended up making ventilation cuts in the roof, let the smoke exit, and we were able to extinguish the small fire that was (in the house).”

One man was treated by REMSA for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
