The Downtown Sands Farmers Market has partnered with Washoe Senior Services to be a Fan Drive Drop-Off Location on Thursday, June 23rd from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. The fan drop-off location is at the Sands Promotion Booth outside in the Farmers Market lot.
The Fan Drive benefits seniors ages 60 and older who do not have air conditioning, or are in need of fans to help cool their homes. Anyone can donate a fan at the Sands Farmers Market. Only donations of new fans still in boxes will be accepted. To thank people for their donation, they will get one free drink of your choice at the Sands Lemonade Booth.
To qualify for a fan, recipients must be 60 years of age or older. Seniors without air conditioning and those who have not previously participated in the program are a priority.
The Sands Farmers Markets features free, live classic rock concerts, food trucks, family-friendly fun, a beer garden with local craft beers, and weekly summer games by Sam Adams, where you can win free beer for a year. Bands perform for free from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. This week’s band will be the Electric Jimmy’s.
The 10,000 square foot market will be under a covered tent, so visitors will be shaded from the summer heat and able to shop in comfort.
The weekly summer games from Sam Adams will highlight a different activity each week, where one can compete for free beer for a year. The schedule includes: Cornhole, Basketball, Jenga, Connect Four on a rotating basis from weeks 1 through 12.
In addition, High Sierra Chefs Association, Inc. will be conducting cooking demonstrations on June 30th, July 28th and August 25th. Market shoppers will also find a variety of seasonal, farm fresh fruits and vegetables from certified farms.
