In conjunction with Artown, Circus Circus Reno is hosting another 24-hour Mural Marathon.
Artists will compete for a grand prize while painting individual murals on one of seven (7) panels on the exterior of the Circus Circus main building facing Virginia Street.
All murals will remain on display on the Circus Circus Building for a year, until the next competition.
Artist submission was open from February through April.
Based on application and mural concept, a committee chose the following participants: Arthur Bryce Chisholm, David Cherry, Heidi Barnett, Stephane Cellier, Anthony Padilla, a team of Asa Kennedy and Derek Miller, and lastly, Danielle Rumbaugh. There are also two alternates, Amerique Powell and Steve Machutta.
Each artist will receive a stipend of $750 for materials, but will be responsible for his or her own equipment and labor. The competition will be 10 a.m. on July 10 to 10 a.m. on July 11. There are cash prizes for first ($2,000), second ($1,000) and third place ($500). A portion of Virginia Street will be closed for the event, a 24-hour show open to any and all viewers.
