ktmb_logo-300x300-5921241-8126065RENO, NV (Aug. 20, 2013) – Is the Reno-Sparks area cleaner or dirtier than in 2012? Residents will know the answer on Sept. 4, 2013, after the annual KTMB Litter Survey.

The KTMB Litter Survey provides data to local municipalities as well as Keep America Beautiful’s national Litter Index. Areas to survey are chosen to reflect population and land use, and are rated on a 1-to-4 scale, with 1 meaning “virtually no litter observed” and 4 meaning “illegal dump sites present”. The 2013 KTMB Litter Survey is Sept. 4, 5 p.m., at 2000 Del Monte Lane, Reno (KTMB Office).

“Litter and illegal dumping have wide-reaching health and economic impacts on our community,” said Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful Program Manager Jaime Souza. “The KTMB Litter Index helps us, the cities and the county identify problem areas and work together on lasting solutions.”

“Through coalitions like the Illegal Dumping Task Force, we move beyond cleanups and offer community education and economic alternatives. As an organization, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful mobilizes thousands of volunteers to clean up litter and dump sites, but if we want to be a truly healthy community, we have to help residents understand the real drain on our economy and quality of life these problems create.”
