Center for Health and Fitness Women’s Day & Open House – Oct. 28 and 29

Come celebrate Women’s Health Days on Friday, Oct. 28 and Saturday, Oct. 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hosted seminars and fitness classes will help women focus on their health to increase overall wellbeing. Informative seminars include:

Graduate Nurse Transition to Practice Program- Accepting applications beginning Nov. 1

Saint Mary’s will begin a new program developed through a federal grant that supports nurse education, practice and retention. The program offers support and education to assist graduate nurses as they transition into a clinical role. Applications will be accepted starting Tuesday, Nov. 1. Community WellCheck- Nov. 4 & 17

Monthly Community WellChecks offers a wide variety of affordable health screenings and immunizations to help identify potential health risks. All screenings are held from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Center for Health, at 645 N. Arlington, 3rd floor. Cost varies. To schedule an appointment, call 770-7100.

Hands-on Grocery Store Tour – Nov. 15

Saint Mary’s team of registered dietitians is offering a hands-on Grocery Store Tour on Tuesday, Nov. 15 from 10-11 a.m. at Scolari’s at 4788 Caughlin Parkway in Reno. Tours will provide participants with budget-wise shopping tips that can be used to purchase healthy, nutritional foods. The cost of the tour is only $10. To register, call 770-7100.

Breathe Easy Tobacco Cessation Program – Starts Nov. 21

If you are interested in quitting smoking, or any tobacco use, our Breathe Easy Tobacco Cessation program is for you. Beginning on Monday, Nov. 21 and ending on Dec. 19, a Mayo Clinic-certified tobacco treatment specialist will provide participants with the tools they need to quit using tobacco. Classes will be held every Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Saint Mary’s Health Enhancement at 1625 East Prater Way in Sparks. The cost of the class is $95. Discounted mammogram screening offered through Dec. 31

Preventive healthcare is important to maintaining optimal health and by getting an annual mammogram you can detect breast cancer earlier. To make your annual screening simpler, Saint Mary’s Outpatient Imaging is offering a discounted mammogram screening for only $100 (radiologist reading fee included). Schedule an appointment today by calling 770-3187. Appointments must be scheduled by Dec. 31, 2011.

Lung Cancer CT Screening

Saint Mary’s Center for Cancer now offers a safe low-dose CT screening for detecting lung cancer. The new technology reduces cancer deaths by 20 percent compared to traditional chest X-rays. Ideal candidates for this screening are those aged 55-74 years old with a history of smoking. Screenings require a physician order and cost $199, which includes the CT exam and radiologist interpretation fees. To learn more, call 770-7775.

Medical Exercise Program – ENROLL NOW

Exercise has long been associated with improving overall health, specifically for those with medical conditions and Saint Mary’s Center for Health and Fitness has launched the region’s first Medical Exercise Program. The new program provides support and professional consultation to those with medical conditions and those looking to improve their health and overall quality of life. The program offers specialized tracks which include cancer rehab, cardiac fitness, pre- and post-natal fitness, medical exercise and weight management programs. Additionally, the fitness center offers a Medical Exercise gym membership designed for participants after they complete a specialized program or those interested in general membership. Prices vary. SEASONAL IMMUNIZATIONS:

Saint Mary’s Immunizations will host flu shot clinics in October at the following locations:

· Wednesday, Oct. 26- Saint Mary’s Galena, 18653 Wedge Parkway, Reno from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

· Thursday, Oct. 27- Sak ‘n Save, 1901 Silverada Boulevard, Reno from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Additional clinics will be held for children ages 6 months to 9 years and appointments can be made by calling 770-7100.
