Public invited to Open House at the Center Street Offices of the Sheriff’s Alternatives to Incarceration Unit, Washoe County Clerk’s Office and Public Defender

Three Washoe County agencies who now share the same roof in downtown Reno inviteresidents to learn about the public services they provide when the Washoe County Sheriff’s Alternatives to Incarceration Unit, County Clerk’s Office and Public Defender’s Office host an open house at noon on Thursday, October 27, in their offices at 350 S. Center Street.

Incarceration Unit, Washoe County Clerk’s Office and Public Defender

When: 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2011

Where: 350 Center Street, first floor

The Sheriff’s Alternatives to Incarceration Unit save taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars each year through programs such as the Sheriff’s Community Work Program, Inmate Work Program, House Arrest Program and a variety of successful counseling programs

People represented by the Washoe County Public Defender’s Office include:

  • indigent persons in criminal cases, and probation and parole hearings
  • indigent parents in child abuse and neglect cases where children are removed from their homes
  • every child charged with a juvenile delinquent act or found to be a child in need of supervision unless a private attorney is hired

Services provided by the Clerk’s Office at Center Street include the Civil Marriage Commissioner and the County Board Record and Minutes Division.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office celebrates 150 years of proud service and community partnership in 2011. Sheriff Michael Haley is the 24th person elected to serve as the Sheriff of Washoe County. His office continues to be the only full service public safety agency operating within northern Nevada and is responsible for operating the consolidated detention facility, regional crime lab, Northern Nevada Counter Terrorism Center, Internet Crimes against Children Task Force, court security, service of civil process and traditional street patrols.
