NEVADA GIVES NEWS RELEASE

Today, community leaders, special guests and northern Nevada nonprofit organizations gathered at the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum (The Discovery) to formally announce Nevada’s first statewide day of giving happening Thursday, Nov. 17. Nevada’s Big Give provides opportunities for those looking to donate to philanthropic initiatives which improve the quality of life in Nevada. Nevada’s Big Give aims to positively impact the state by raising more than $1 million in a single day. Nonprofit organizations are encouraged to become familiar with the resources available and register before Nov. 17 by visiting www.nvbiggive.org.

“It’s rare that the entire state has the opportunity to come together on the same day and make a difference in each community, but Nevada’s Big Give is a chance to do just that,” said first lady of Nevada and program director for the Children’s Cabinet, Kathleen Sandoval. “Charitable giving is the lifeblood of organizations that serve those most in need.  I encourage all Nevadans to join me in supporting Nevada’s Big Give on Nov. 17.”

Nevada’s Big Give consists of 24 hours of charitable online giving through one central website. All 501(c)(3) organizations in Nevada are eligible to participate through raising funds and awareness for the initiative. The Big Give is a united effort that provides an opportunity for all Nevadans to recognize and support the importance of charitable organizations.

“The world of charitable giving can be complex, which is why Nevada’s Big Give is designed to make it fun and simple for Nevadans to give back to charities throughout our state,” said Stacey Wedding, board president of NevadaGIVES. “It will take all of us to achieve this goal, but it’s as easy as point, click, give.”

Already, Nevada’s Big Give has received tremendous support from communities statewide and would not have been possible without sponsors including: United Way of Southern Nevada, the Tony & Renee Charitable Foundation, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Carolyn & John Glaser and Professionals in Philanthropy, LLC.

Nevada’s Big Give is modeled after other successful efforts in communities throughout the country including Minnesota’s ‘Give to the Max’ and Seattle’s ‘GiveBig’. These two online giving initiatives raised a combined total of $13.2 million in a single day.
