Sierra Fire Protection District is holding an evacuation drill on Saturday, April 30, 2011 for the areas of the Galena Forest Estates, St. James Village, Rolling Hills, Monteux, Arrowcreek and Rock Farm Road This area has over 3,700 residents off of the Mt. Rose Hwy. and Joy Lake Road. On April 30th at 9:30am the evacuation drill of the Mt. Rose area will start. The drill will have a reported wildland fire in the St. James Village area. The fire will be moving toward structures off of Joy Lake Road. Sierra Fire Protection District with Washoe County Emergency Management will activate the County’s City Watch program (reverse 911). The program will call the residents home phone number with a recorded message, which tells them to evacuate to the evacuation center at Galena High School. We will also have notification teams going door to door informing the residents of the evacuation. Upon arriving at Galena High school, you will be directed to the check in with Red Cross. After checking you can go and enjoy the Nevada Wildland Awareness kick-off event. (see attached event information below)
On April 16th and 17th from 10am- noon there will be P.R.I.D.E classroom training in preparation for the wildland evacuation drill and fire season .The class will be held at the Sierra Fire Protection District Station #39, located at 4000 Joy Lake Road, in Galena. The class will cover: advance home preparation, before the, fire to-go bag, out of area contacts, defensible space, before the fire approaches, animal evacuation, and community evacuation routes, among other pertinent information. Sierra Fire will also be holding P.R.I.D.E classes on April 26th and 28th from 6-8pm at the Redfield Campus in Room 227. The Nevada Wildland Awareness Event and the P.R.I.D.E. classes are open to all residents in Washoe County.
Agencies that will take part in this drill are: Sierra Fire Protection District, Sierra Fire Volunteers , Washoe County Sheriff, Washoe County Search and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff Raven and Raven 3, along with Care Flight. Washoe County Emergency Management, Reno E-COMM, Washoe County Animal Services, Nevada Red Cross, Washoe County GIS, and University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Living With Fire., North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, Nevada Division of Forestry, Washoe County CERT and Washoe County School District.
