CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Division of Forestry is aiding firefighting efforts in Texas by contributing personnel and equipment to help the state fight devastating wildfires.
“Since the fires started about a month ago, we have sent 14 personnel,” said Nevada’s State Forester and Firewarden, Pete Anderson. NDF is also contributing a dozer and a wildland fire engine to the firefighting efforts.
Multiple fires throughout the western half of Texas are being fought. An estimated half-million acres have burned from the three largest of the fires, while about two million acres have been burned in Texas so far this fire season.
“I have talked to the Texas State Forester several times and he is extremely thankful for the assistance,” Anderson said. “Texas has requested continuation of assistance for additional 14-day assignments, so we will rotate staff and give additional personnel critical training opportunities.”
Anderson said these assignments will be reassessed weekly as southern Nevada comes into fire season and initiates fire restrictions, typically by June 1.
