renown_brochure_091006_b-50In an effort to keep the northern Nevada community healthy this flu season, Renown Health will provide Seasonal Flu and Pneumonia Shots to the public at a variety of locations throughout the Truckee Meadows.

Renown has scheduled more than 25 Seasonal Flu and Pneumonia shot events. Seasonal Flu shots are offered at no cost to Medicare beneficiaries (Part B), members of Senior Care Plus or Hometown Health fully insured HMO and PPO plans. All other persons can receive the Seasonal Flu shots for $28 and the Pneumonia Shots for $55.

“The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommend a flu vaccine as the first and most important thing people can do to protect against the flu,” said Lori Mitchell, manager, health management services and wellness resources at Renown Health. “Additional preventive actions like washing your hands and covering your cough will help stop the spread of germs.”

This year’s seasonal flu shot will include the H1N1 vaccine so people will only need to get the seasonal flu vaccine this year. People interested in finding out more about the vaccine can visit t he CDC Web site, cdc.gov, which contains helpful information.

Visit renown.org/flu for a complete Seasonal Flu and Pneumonia shot schedule or call 775-982-5757.

If unable to attend any of the flu shot events, people are encouraged to call Renown Medical Group at 775-982-5000 to schedule an appointment. For children ages 6 months to 8 years old, flu shots are available by appointment only.  Please call 775-982-5433.
