“Our coaching staff is excited to land a player of Shawn’s caliber,” Musselman said. “We believe he is a great talent and we are excited to have a young man like Shawn from Sacramento as a part of our recruiting class.  We believe that he was one of the best shooters on the market and that he is someone that can come in and provide immediate help to our Wolf Pack roster with his toughness and playing experience.”

Smith started the first five games last season before a shoulder injury sidelined him for the rest of the year and he received a medical redshirt.  He was averaging 12 points per game before the injury.  From the field he was shooting 48.8 percent and 37.5 percent from behind the arc.

As a junior the Sacramento, Calif. native averaged 7.6 points and 4.1 rebounds appearing in all 33 games for the Thundering Herd while earning 15 starts.  From the field he shot 42.9 percent, 28.2 from three-point range and 64.4 percent at the free throw line.

Following high school the 6-6 forward, spent two seasons at the College of San Francisco where he helped the team to a 28-0 regular season and 31-1 overall record his sophomore season.  He averaged 10.9 points and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 52.9 percent from the field.

As a prep senior he earned first-team All-Metro Conference honors playing at C.K. McClatchy High School in Sacramento.   His senior year he averaged 15.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game for the Lions.  Smith also earned all-conference football honors playing wide receiver.
