pinenut-basket1-397x500-8082722-4360979Sierra Arts is presenting an exhibition of Melissa Melero’s mixed-media paintings inspired by the landscape and culture of the Numu tribe in Nevada.

The exhibition will be open to the public March 25 through April 24. There will be an artist reception April 2 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.. This event is free and open to the public. Wild River Grille will provide refreshments.

As a Northern Paiute, Melero grew up surrounded by artisans. She integrates the circle, the cycle of life, the four directions and petroglyphs into her work. Her work reflects her culture, family and personal life events.

“I have the constant desire to create these images in my head, and in the process, these works mesh into organic, caught-in-time objects of history, and personal development,” Melero said.

Melero was born in San Francisco. She is a Reno resident and works as a professional artist. She exhibits at the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts in Santa Fe and in select galleries throughout the United States.
