‘Close Encounters of the Human Kind’ is a heartwarming series of short plays at Bruka

Date:

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

For one weekend only, visit Bruka theater and experience the delightful magic of “Close Encounters of the Human Kind.” Enjoy five original short plays written and directed by Reno local Bob Gabrielli.

Each short play lasts about 10 minutes with a minimal cast. What starts as a seemingly normal encounter ends with a clever twist that will have you immediately reliving the scene that just played before you in a fresh new light.

The night starts off with a seemingly innocent volunteer checking in on a woman in a rush. The next play follows a man finding a connection with a nurse while donating blood. After that, enjoy the spunk of a washed-out tennis player as she makes conversation with the ball girl.

The penultimate play is about a married couple having their annual marriage review. I’m still thinking about the ending to that one. The night ends off with a crew of food bank volunteers welcoming in some fresh meat.

Each segment will leave you feeling a certain way, whether it’s joyous or uncertain. Coming in at about an hour and with no intermission, it’s well worth the time and effort to visit Bruka theater this weekend.

Two actors, male and female, one with a funny face.
