The Nevada Department of Agriculture is taking applications for its Foundation Seed Program, which provides free native seeds to agricultural producers. The program aims to diversify crops, address local plant restoration needs and conserve water. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Sept. 12, 2024.
“This program addresses a critical need for native plant species in Nevada,” said Meghan Brown with NDA. “By offering free native seeds, we aim to increase the availability of native plants that are essential for land restoration and rehabilitation efforts in Nevada.”
In exchange for free seeds, participants are required to return a portion of their yield at no cost to maintain the program’s sustainability. Producers are free to use or sell the remainder of their harvest.
NDA will review and rank applications, with seeds awarded free of charge to selected participants.
