Sierra Integrated Systems (SIS) recently announced that it will offer a 24/7 remote monitoring and support service for computer networks and key electronic devices to mitigate deteriorating power quality on the grid. This service will provide customers peace of mind in the reliability of their computer networks and home technology, which will become even more important as IoT-enabled devices continue to become more pervasive.

Deteriorating power quality can cause key electronic devices to lose functionality or worse, be destroyed, while also causing data errors or complete data losses – not just with computers, but also plugged in appliances, like washing machines and refrigerators. Such poor power quality is caused by a variety of things, some of which include lightning, storms, objects striking power lines or power poles, the increased use of renewable energy sources like solar, and general power outages caused by utility issues. All of these sources can affect power in different ways resulting in voltage sags, spikes, or interruptions that can wreak havoc on electronics.

“SIS now has the capability to remotely monitor our customers’ computer networks, as well as all key devices connected to the network on a 24/7 basis,” said Keith Burrowes, co-owner of SIS. “If any key connected device fails to function properly, we are automatically alerted, will investigate immediately and will remotely re-boot the devices, which usually corrects the issue – likely before the customer has even realized there is a problem. This will dramatically decrease the need for a technician to arrive on-site to fix an issue.”

Remote systems monitoring is now available to customers in the Reno-Tahoe region, with two subscription packages featuring different levels of service. Customers will even have the option to complete simple system resets through a smartphone app should an issue arise, backed up by live technicians who are available 24/7 to help.
