Washoe County’s Human Services Agency (HSA) announced today the opening of the region’s new family engagement center for parents and children.

Located at 905 East Prater Way, the center features a playground, a multi-use facility, and space for a variety of family and children’s activities.

“Studies show a natural, spacious place reduces anxiety and depression. A decrease in behavioral issues and reunification probability increases significantly when parents visit their children more frequently in a supportive, nurturing environment,” said HSA Director Amber Howell. “I want to thank the Washoe County Commission and all of our community partners for recognizing the need and helping HSA provide a safe and secure place our families can use well into the future.”

The facility has visitation rooms, an area for adolescents, baby nurseries, a kitchen, and a dining room. Children can also experience a sensory gym and a playground. HSA has more than 15,000 with foster children each year, and the new facility will help provide needed space for visitations.
