The Lantern Fest was held June 11, 2016 –June 12, 2016 at the Fernley 95A Speedway. The day included music, dancing, juggling, face painters, s’mores and food trucks.
Lantern Fest goers were encouraged to write something meaningful on their lanterns. When the sun came down the lanterns were lit. The lanterns were lit off the Tiki torches provided by the festival. The sky lit up from 3,000 attendee’s lanterns being carried off by a gentle breeze.
Another tradition is to launch a lantern in honor of a lost family member or friend. “I dedicated this lantern to the memory of my good friend Lance. I came out last October and did the very same thing to honor of my friend,” said Marylee Neeley of Reno.
Another good thing about the Lantern Fest is if the admission price is too steep, they have a volunteer program. The volunteer program allows admission in exchange for helping out with various tasks throughout the event.
