chief-hernandez-150x150-5943715-9480249Reno Fire Chief Michael Hernandez has submitted his resignation from the City of Reno.

The end of his tenure is effective August 12, 2015.

“Chief Hernandez led the department through some of the most tumultuous times the City of Reno and the Reno Fire Department have faced,” said Reno City Manager Andrew Clinger. “The City of Reno and the Mayor and Council appreciate the many years of service that Chief Hernandez gave to the organization and Reno residents.”

Hernandez said it’s time to retire.

“After careful consideration and discussions with the City Manager, I have elected to retire,” Hernandez says. “I have enjoyed my years serving the citizens of the City of Reno and will continue to pursue other opportunities in the future.”

Clinger has appointed Chief Dave Cochran as the acting Reno Fire Chief until a permanent chief is selected. Cochran has more than 17 years of experience with the Reno Fire Department.

Hernandez has served as the Reno Fire Chief since March 2010 and has been a fire service professional for more than 30 years.

He was recently a candidate for fire chief in Plano, Texas but was passed over for other finalists considered for the position.
