block_n-2248016-4612911The University of Nevada School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry Behavioral Health Patient Care Center will hold workshops for parents raising adolescents on May 2 and May 16. Workshops will focus on adolescence emotions, mood swings, family communication and joint parenting.

The three-hour workshop will be led by Saul Zelan, M.D., a board certified pediatrician and child/adolescent psychiatrist with the School of Medicine. Zelan brings experience working with patients coping with severe depression and anxiety, eating disorders, self-harm and substance abuse.

“These workshops will focus on helping parents who are feeling overwhelmed when faced with their child’s behavioral problems. We will explore why children seem like different people from day-to-day, why emotions are not always helpful and ways parents can work together as a team to foster better communications with their child,” Zelan explained.

Workshops will be held at the University of Nevada, Reno Redfield Campus, 18600 Wedge Parkway Nell J. Redfield Building A, Room 214, in Reno. The cost is $150 for one or two parents from the same household. Two sessions are available: Saturday, May 2 from 9 a.m. to noon, and again on Saturday, May 16 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
