Events include: visit from playwright, High Tea service, and open captioning performance.
Reno Little Theater is proud to present the next main stage show in its 80th season with Enchanted April. The show runs from April 10 to April 26 at 147 East Pueblo Street in Midtown Reno.
Enchanted April, 2003 Tony Nominee for Best Play, is a delightful romantic comedy, based on the novel of the same name, set in 1922. Enchanted April tells the story of two bored London housewives who plan an escape to the Mediterranean and recruit two upper-class women (and relative strangers) to split the cost of a rented villa with them. Sparks fly between the very different personalities, but among the wisteria blossoms, the women rediscover themselves and their marriages along the way.
Enchanted April will feature period costume pieces from the Theater Development Fund’s (TDF) Costume Collection. The TDF Costume Collection houses over 80,000 costumes and accessories donated from Broadway, Off Broadway, Opera, Film, and regional productions. Director, McKenzi Swinehart, was able to visit and view the costumes at TDF’s 16,000 sq. foot facility at the historic Kaufman Astoria Studios in New York City.
Playwright Matthew Barber will be coming to Reno opening weekend. Audience members will be able to meet Matthew at a very special high tea service hosted by The Isles Teashop on April 11th (tickets $35) and a talk back on April 12th after the matinee performance. On having a playwright attend an opening, director McKenzie Swinehart said “This is the first show I’ve directed with a playwright visit and it’s both exciting and nerve-wracking. I think it puts just the right amount pressure on the actors and production team to take the show to the next level (and really get the lines perfect!).
Being in contact with the playwright has also allowed the cast and crew to ask questions and get answers direct from the source. In addition, Matthew made some changes to the script for a new addition and shared them directly with us to use in the RLT performances. How fun to think that we’ll likely be the first production using the new edition of the script!”
Reno Little Theater will be hosting a number of events in addition to the high tea service. On April 19th, the Nevada Winegrowers Association will be hosting a wine tasting prior to the performance featuring wines grown in Nevada. Enchanted April will be the first show to feature a open captioning performance on April 25 to serve the hearing impaired (press release attached).
Performances are April 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25 @ 7:30pm with matinees April 12, 19, 25, 26 @ 2:00pm. Tickets are be $16 per person, and $13 for seniors, students, or military. For ticket purchasing and more information about the play, visit RLT’s website: http://renolittletheater.org/.
