DAYTON — The April 4, 2015 show “Emanation” features the artwork of Rebecca Bishop, Kapono Fuller, Mallorie Gribble, Blake Carter, and Delia Diaz. The show will be held at the Dayton Valley Community Center at 170 Pike Street from 4:30 pm-6:30 pm.
Rebecca Bishop, one of the organizers for the show, explains that, “The works are centered around our own personal growth as artists and the show is an effort to showcase what we’ve been doing and how we’ve grown.”
The five with work in this group show are:
Kapono Fuller is a senior at Dayton High School who is orginally from Kailua- Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. He notes that “The focus of my art style is realism. I work mainly with India ink and watercolor, but other mediums include acrylic paint, linoleum block carvings, and spray paint.” He has had four Silver Key awards and five honorable mentions in the annual Scholastic Art and Writing competition in Northern Nevada, a competition that concludes with awards night ceremonies at the Nevada Museum of Art. More than 1,000 submissions are evaluated annually by a panel of judges made up of artists and art professionals. This year, he won a Gold Key Award in the competition with a photograph that is on display at the Holland Project Gallery in Reno through April 10th, 2015. The same photograph also won a Silver Key on the national level, and therefore Kaponowas selected to attend the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards National Ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City this June.
Blake Carter, a Dayton High alumnus and current art student at the University of Nevada, Reno. Blake writes, “My art is heavily influenced by those who write music, books, and create art of their own. My art sits on the fence between something I find messy and beautiful. My favorite medium has been spray paint and stencil work. However, I use any medium that can successfully display my vision on canvas.” Blake’s work has been shown at St. Mary’s Art and Retreat Center, a world class art center in Virginia City, as well as in several group exhibitions at the Dayton Valley Community Center and during several of the annual Night of the Arts events in Dayton. His work has been recognized through awards such as the Silver Key award from the Scholastic Art Awards sponsored by the Nevada Museum of Art.
Dayton High alumna Mallorie Gribble is currently a freshman at the University of Nevada, Reno. She writes, “I’m a Veterinary Science major, but have always had a passion for art. My mediums range from charcoal to water color, acrylic, and ink.” Mallorie’s work has been shown and sold at St. Mary’s Art Center in Virginia City, as well as in several group exhibitions at the Dayton Valley Community Center. Her work has been recognized through awards such as the Silver Key award from the Scholastic Art Awards sponsored by the Nevada Museum of Art.
Delia Diaz’s artwork has been shown in several group shows in Dayton, and her work was noted in the 2012 Congressional Art Competition and Scholastic Art Awards sponsored by the Nevada Museum of Art. She writes, “My art varies from the influence of new experiences to unrelated epiphanies, and from heading back to my roots and embracing my Mexican culture.” Delia is majoring in psychology at Western Nevada College, and will graduate with an Associate of Arts in spring of 2015. She then plans to transfer to UNR to obtain her Bachelor’s.
Rebecca Bishop, currently a student at Western Nevada College, has shown her artwork in group shows in Dayton and at several galleries including The Backseat Gallery in Carson City. She has been commissioned to design work for Reno bands like Impurities.
