SILVER SPRINGS — Silver Stage Stand Tall is hosting its annual 5K Walk/Run for the community on April 11t, 2015 at 8 a.m. at the Silver Stage High School. This year, organizers are encouraging runners to dress as their favorite superheroes and will provide prizes for best costumes.
Registration for groups of 5 provides a real bargain at just $25 without purchasing t-shirts, or $50 with shirt purchase. That’s $10 a person. Individual registration is $20 for adults or $10 for youths (without a T-shirt purchase). All proceeds go toward the annual Stand Tall scholarship fund.
Registration can be completed on the day of the event, or by calling Tammy Sutton for a pre-registration form at 775-301-8543.
The run is followed by a “Spring into Health” fair from 10 am to 4 pm. Runners are encouraged to stop by the fair at the high school.
Services offered will include child development and mental health screenings, vaccinations, sports physicals, general exams, HIV tests with instant results, diabetes and nutrition education, blood work by Renown, plus booths featuring opportunities for job skills training, employment, summer internships, and volunteer service. The fair is sponsored by Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey.
Stand Tall teams are busy in each high school in Lyon County. These youth leadership teams are part of the nonprofit, Healthy Communities Coalition.
