RTC NEWS — The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County is reminding the community its new service to Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe debuts this Saturday, May 24th – just in time to make plans for a Memorial Day weekend getaway.
RTC is inviting people to forget about searching for parking spaces at Lake Tahoe, and instead leave the driving to us. For an affordable price, riders will be able to relax and enjoy the famous scenery as they travel to the “gem of the Sierra” with ease and in comfort.
The coach will depart from Meadowood Mall, stop at the Summit Mall and then continue on to Sand Harbor. It will depart the lake; stop at the Summit Mall and then Meadowood Mall on its return route.
The cash fare for the service is $5 one-way for adults, or $3.50 with transfer from RTC Transit Services or Tahoe Area Regional Transit (TART) Service. The fare also covers the park entry fee. Youths, seniors and people with disabilities may take advantage of the new service for just $2.50, or $1.50 with transfer from RTC Transit Services or TART Service – a valid ID must be presented at the time of boarding for the reduced rate. Kids age 5 and under ride for free.
The new service comes as many will look for relief from warmer valley temperatures in the cool, crystal-clear water of Lake Tahoe. The service will operate through Labor Day on weekends and holidays – Memorial Day (May 26th), Independence Day (July 4th) and Labor Day (September 1st).
The Sand Harbor service is part of a demonstration project, which is made possible by federal funding. Members of the
public told RTC they wanted this service when they provided feedback on the 2035 Regional Transportation Plan.
