RPD NEWS RELEASE

Michael LaShawn Williams, 41, was sentenced to the Nevada State Department of Corrections today by the Honorable Judge Patrick Flanagan.  He had pleaded guilty earlier in the year to one count of Embezzlement of Motor Vehicle, for which he received a sentence of 24-60 months and one count of Burglary, receiving a sentence of 48-120 months.

The sentences will run concurrently, meaning he will serve a minimum of 4 years in prison.

In May, Williams had stolen a vehicle from a disabled mentally impaired relative.  Sparks Police Department Patrol arrested him for that charge.  While he was in custody, repeat offender detectives discovered that he had passed a forged check at the Rail City Casino in Sparks prior to his arrest.  He was additionally booked for those charges.

Williams has a criminal history spanning 23 years including 5 prior felony convictions.   The Northern Nevada Repeat Offender Program is a regional unit comprising detectives from the Reno and Sparks Police Departments.
