SUBMITTED NEWS — On July 25, representatives of NV Energy, Tahoe-Pyramid Bikeway, and Truckee Meadows Water Authority signed an agreement for access to NV Energy property adjacent to the historic Farad Hydroelectric Plant.
The signing of this agreement culminated negotiations among the three entities that will allow mountain bikers and hikers to pass through NV Energy’s property for two miles from Floriston, California to the Farad Hydro Plant along the Truckee River.
This agreement is the third that NV Energy has been party to with the Tahoe-Pyramid Bikeway, having recently opened access to property near the Tracy Power Station, and also having been part of the negotiations with Truckee Meadows Water Authority to allow access to the Fleish Hydro Plant and Fleish Bridge along the river.
Bikeway President Janet Phillips is hopeful that the two-mile trail section connecting Floriston to Farad will be built between 2013 and 2014, depending on final design and fundraising. This would complete another portion of the Truckee to Reno leg of the trail.
This portion of the trail will not be paved and will be navigable via mountain bikes or on foot. In the next one to two years, this trail segment will be a stand-alone section, not connecting to Reno until the adjacent downstream section is built. The completed plan is for a trail from Lake Tahoe to Pyramid Lake, 116 miles.
Currently the trail is 65% complete.
