College of Business graduates first EMBA cohort Saturday

block_n-1752356-3082805The University of Nevada, Reno’s College of Business Executive Master in Business Administration program (EMBA) will graduate the first cohort of 13 students this Saturday, Aug. 24 from 2-4 p.m. Students will be joined by their professors, families and friends as they receive their master’s degree in business administration (EMBA).
WHAT: The University’s first EMBA cohort graduation ceremony. Launched in August 2011, the EMBA program was ranked 55th out of more than 220 institutions in U.S. News and World Report’s annual ranking of the top online MBA programs. It is taught by the same faculty who teach the college’s part-time MBA program, which is ranked number four in the country by Bloomberg Business Week.  The college’s program continues to receive accolades as it was recently ranked fourth in the Top Online Executive MBA Programs by BusinessMBA.org.
WHO: Executive Vice President and Provost Kevin Carman, College of Business Dean Greg Mosier, Associate Dean and EMBA Program Director Kambiz Raffiee and class professors will graduate 13 students from the University’s first EMBA cohort. Students in the cohort come from Nevada and California and the average age of students in the cohort is 40.
WHEN: 2-4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013
WHERE: The Joe Crowley Student Union, Milton Glick Ballrooms, 1664, N. Virginia Street, Reno.
HOW: The College of Business online EMBA program, a partnership with the University’s Extended Studies, is a cohort-based program consisting of 12 online courses divided into two groups. Students take six courses in their first year of study and take the remaining six in their second year of the program.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES: A graduation ceremony will be held for the 13 students receiving their MBA. Representatives from the College of Business and students from the cohort will be available to discuss what it was like to participate in this online program.

MEDIA PARKING: Media can park in the metered parking spots in front of the Joe Crowley Student Union or in the Silver 16 parking area, the lot behind Lombardi Recreation.

ABOUT EMBA:  Offered online, the EMBA program is designed to accommodate the schedules of mid-career executives and experienced professionals. It has full accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the highest level of business accreditation attainable in business education. Since the program’s launch in August 2011, enrollment has risen more than 280 percent. The cohort set to graduate in 2014 has 25 students pursuing their EMBA and this year, the cohort which started in August already has more than 35 participants.
