NORTHERN NEVADA MEDICAL CENTER NEWS RELEASE – The Wound Care Center at Northern Nevada Medical Center (NNMC) recently received the Center of Distinction Award for Quality Patient Care and for the second consecutive year, the Center of Excellence Award. Healogics Inc. has recognized NNMC for the following outstanding patient outcomes in 2012: over 92% patient satisfaction; 91% wound healing rate; 30 median days to heal; and, an outlier rate less than or equal to 19%.
Current statistics show that nearly 5 million Americans are afflicted with chronic, non-healing wounds. With a rapidly growing aging population and obesity rates, diseases such as diabetes, arterial and venous disease, and other conditions can lead to non-healing wounds. If not treated on time, a simple cut could turn to a life-threatening condition.
“We’re honored,” said Todd Inman, MD, Medical Director of the Wound Care Center. “It’s a privilege to be able to provide an important and successful service to hundreds of patients. These results are a sign of the dedication the staff and the patients have invested into wound healing.”
The NNMC Would Care Center introduced the region’s first physician-supervised hyperbaric oxygen therapy in 2008, a technology that has a nearly 90% effectiveness in treatment of hypoxic wounds and necrotizing soft tissue infections. With this specialized service, Northern Nevada Medical Center has been able to heal patients in our community who might otherwise have experienced an amputation or other life- threatening condition.
Healogics is the world’s largest wound care management company for over 20 years, with more than 500 centers. Northern Nevada Medical Center is one of the 42 centers in the country this year to be recognized for two consecutive years by Healogics for its outstanding clinical outcomes.
