CARSON CITY – Senate Republican leader Michael Roberson, R-Henderson, today introduced legislation to create the Teachers’ School Supplies Reimbursement Account.
Senate Bill 240 authorizes teachers to submit claims to be reimbursed for out-of-pocket expenses incurred in connection with purchasing necessary school supplies for the pupils whom they instruct.
“I am honored to sponsor legislation that will help lessen the financial burden placed on teachers who provide additional supplies for their students,” stated Roberson. “Many teachers purchase supplies with personal funds throughout the school year. This bill will ensure they are reimbursed for their out-of-pocket expenses.”
“Senate Bill 240 has bipartisan support,” stated Roberson. “The primary sponsors of this legislation are Senators Denis, Woodhouse, Hardy, Hutchison, Assemblyman Hickey and myself. Senators Brower, Kieckhefer, Kihuen, Mandendo, Parks, Segerblom as well as Assembly Members Bobzien, Hardy, Horne, Oscarson, Spiegel, Stewart and Swank are cosponsors of this effort to reimburse teachers who go the extra mile for their students.”
