NEVADA WOMEN’S EXPO NEWS RELEASE – Sponsor Northern Nevada Medical Center will join forces once again with Nevada Women’s Expo to bring value, health education and Hollywood to our region’s women. Northern Nevada Medical Center will offer free screenings for blood pressure, Body Mass Index (BMI), glucose and neck/back physical therapy on a first-come, first-served basis. The 11th annual Expo will be held March 23 and 24, at the Reno Sparks Convention Center.

Physicians strongly advise having regular health screenings to which creates a dialogue and a proactive relationship with healthcare providers. When healthcare providers detect and diagnose conditions early, women have a better chance of maintaining their quality of life and avoiding serious complications. Physicians have a better chance of treating many diseases successfully through early detection. For example, high blood pressure can be detected only by a screening, as it has no symptoms. The disease increases the force against artery walls and damages arteries over time. Damaged arteries become less able to deliver blood to vital organs in the body increasing the risk for heart disease, strokes, and kidney disease. By detecting it early, physicians can discuss lifestyle modifications with their patients and possibly prescribe medication to control blood pressure.
