RENO, Nev. – Volunteer assistant coach Casey Tate has been promoted to assistant coach, head coach Dr. Melissa Price announced Tuesday.
Tate completed his third year with the Nevada soccer team as a volunteer assistant coach last season. He received his degree from Ottawa University in History and holds a USSF A license. Tate played at the collegiate level at Chandler-Gilbert Community College, Indiana Institute of Technology, and Arizona State University.
“Casey has been a tremendous asset to our program and I’m thrilled he is able to join us on a full-time basis,” head coach Dr. Melissa Price said. “ Tate loves the game and is passionate about coaching. He is committed to our program goals, as well as his own development as a coach. We have an experienced staff and Tate will add to our ability to break down the game for our student-athletes, while teaching them how to be a student of the game and excel to the highest level. I’m excited about the future of Wolf Pack Soccer and the impact I know Tate will make in helping us achieve our long term goals.”
Tate came to Nevada from Seton Catholic Preparatory High School in Arizona where he was the girls’ soccer coach and physical education teacher. During his tenure at Seton Catholic, they won two Arizona high school state titles in 2006 and 2007. He was named Arizona State Coach of the Year 2007 and 2008, along with Region Coach of the Year 2007, 2008, and 2010. Tate was the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Coach of the Year 2006 and 2007.
“I am honored and very thankful for this opportunity to increase my role with the Wolf Pack family,” Tate said. “I have enjoyed helping Dr. Price and Kirk Nelson build the tradition at Nevada as a volunteer. I am excited for the opportunity to continue to help the program reach its goals, both academically and athletically, while competing for a Mountain West championship in my increased role as an assistant coach. I will give everything I have to make these goals come true. I want to thank Dr. Price for this wonderful opportunity for my family.”
Tate and his wife, Kristina, have three daughters, Ava, Maleah, Makenzie, and a son on the way.
The Wolf Pack soccer team will kick-off its Spring schedule with a contest against the Nevada Men’s Club team on April 6 at Mackay Stadium. The event is free to the public and begins at 3:30 p.m.
