SIERRA NEVADA CORPORATION NEWS RELEASE SPARKS – One northern Nevada company recently provided an important tool to our nation’s military men and women in the field, while also helping our local economy. Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) delivered the first Low Rate Initial Production Mobile Tower System (MOTS) to the U.S. Army at a delivery ceremony in Sparks today. The MOTS is a rapidly deployable Air Traffic Control (ATC) system that provides higher operational readiness for the Army’s air traffic controllers supporting aircraft movement at airfields around the world. The MOTS includes an ATC Tower, a medium intensity solar powered airfield runway lighting system and meteorological sensors. The MOTS can be airlifted to support military ATC operations anywhere around the globe.
SNC employs approximately 100 employees who are associated with the MOTS program at its headquarters in Sparks. The work includes systems design, project management, logistical management, procurement of materials from a nationwide network of subcontractors and suppliers, and final assembly and testing.
