Armed robbery, carjacking, vehicle versus Virginia Lake

RPD NEWS — On Thursday March 14th, 2013 at 9:25 PM Officers responded to a report of a vehicle that drove into Virginia Lake. A witness saw the driver swim to the shore and walk out of the area. Reno Fire Department Water Rescue Team, Hasty Team, and Washoe County Search and Rescue responded to verify that there were no other victims inside of the submerged vehicle, and assist with the vehicle recovery. Shortly after responding to the accident, RPD received a report of an armed robbery where a vehicle was taken at gunpoint in the area of Wrondel and Linden. The victim was not injured. During the search of Virginia Lake Officers learned that the vehicle stolen during the robbery was the same vehicle that ended up in Virginia Lake. The suspect is still outstanding.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 5’9 tall, with a medium build. The suspect was wearing a black baseball cap, a black sweat shirt, and dark pants.

The Reno Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect.
