Nevada Conservation League Political Director Kyle Davis made the following statement following passage of the Lake Tahoe Regional Plan Update today, Dec. 12:

“The Nevada Conservation League has been directly involved in the Regional Plan update process for the last 18 months as well as the bi-state consultation process. We appreciate the hard work that has been put into this. We have made significant compromises, and the plan that was approved today is far from perfect. This plan lacks some key components that would allow for greater environmental gain. However, we believe that the best future is one in which the two states are working collaboratively toward the protection of Lake Tahoe, and today’s action is a necessary first step toward this goal.

“To be clear, this process is not over. It is now incumbent upon Nevada to stop playing political games and recommit to the future of the lake. The passage of SB 271 was a black eye for Nevada and we remain disappointed that Nevada leadership has not yet indicated a willingness to undo this action in the 2013 legislative session. We appreciate the recent leadership that has been shown by Secretary of State Ross Miller on this point. With passage of this plan, we expect Governor Sandoval and the Nevada legislature to support the legislation to repeal SB 271 so that we can all move forward and work together for the future of Lake Tahoe.”
