Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum celebrates success since September opening

(Reno, NEV) – On Tuesday, the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum (The Discovery), celebrated the 50,000th visitor to walk through its doors. Tara de Queiroz and her two children, Eiji, 1, and Hana, 4 are frequent visitors to the museum. The Discovery showed its appreciation by awarding Queiroz with 12 day passes and a gift basket containing a variety of fun and popular items from the Museum Store.

“The Discovery’s noteworthy success since its grand opening just three short months ago is a true testament to the need we have fulfilled in downtown Reno,” said Caryn Swobe, chair of the board of directors for The Discovery. “We couldn’t be happier with our achievements over such a short period of time and we know, with continued community support, there are many more to come.”

One of The Discovery’s primary objectives is to be accessible to the entire community, regardless of income level.  Not included in the grand total of 50,000 visitors, The Discovery has welcomed Washoe County School District field trips daily since Nov. 1, at either low or no cost to make certain that all children have the opportunity to experience the museum. Additionally, The Discovery distributed more than 100 “Giving Memberships” to schools and local nonprofit organizations. These Giving Memberships not only give the purchaser benefits of membership, but also create a Gift Membership for a Truckee Meadows family in need.

Since its grand opening in September 2011, The Discovery has received tremendous support from the northern Nevada community. With more than 3,500 memberships sold to-date, the museum continues to offer a unique hands-on learning experience to the region’s youth.
