NVMedTech is a new Northern Nevada information security company that focuses on helping independent health care practitioners in Nevada keep their patients’ health information protected.
“Identity theft is a huge problem in Nevada, and the information contained within a patient’s health record provides thieves with all they need to step in and wreak havoc,” stated company co-founder Mark Sexton. “Keeping patients’ protected health information safe is a primary concern for Nevada’s health care providers. Until now they have been on their own in finding ways to properly secure this information, now we provide an option for that service.”
New federal laws and regulations, such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act, have placed a tremendous burden on area physicians and other health care practitioners. “The laws were put in place, but no avenue for compliance was offered,” said Sexton. “NVMedTech provides the road map required for practitioners to be in compliance.”
Protecting patient information is a fact of doing business in today’s world. Patients expect it and practitioners must do all that they can to ensure that their practice’s are compliant. According the Federal Trade Commissions, identity theft is its number one complaint. In 2009 Nevada ranked third in the nation in identity theft.
NVMedTech does a risk analysis/audit that covers all areas of a practice’s operation including physical, data, personnel, information security, and network analyses. After the audit findings are analyzed and delivered, NVMedTech provides relevant policies, compliance training for staff and an NVMedTech certification which allows practitioners to take advantage of financial government incentives and safe harbor clauses while protecting their patients’ data.
